Frequently Asked Questions

Before scheduling your free onsite estimate, you may need to answer some additional questions about the Gutter Shutter® system. Below, we've assembled a list of some of the most frequently asked questions from our clients.

When it comes to covered gutters, one-piece designs simply don’t make sense. Because they’re fabricated as a single unit, if either the top or bottom of a one-piece gutter system are damaged, the entire unit needs to be replaced. In addition, because the top section isn’t removable, one-piece gutters can be very difficult to clean or service. Newer integrated gutter systems use a two-piece gutter design with a separate top piece that can be removed without having to replace the seamless gutters beneath. One type of integrated system uses a snap on hood, but snap on hoods can be easily damaged or blow away in high winds. Gutter Shutter®’s two-piece gutter design features rolled-hood gutter guards that securely attach to the underlying gutter brackets and troughs. These gutter guards allow easy access for cleaning and servicing, while still being durable enough to resist potential damage.

The Gutter Shutter® system has no vertical openings for water to leak through and no screens, inserts, or filters to clog with debris. Rainwater flows over the rolled hood gutter guards using the principle of surface tension – similar to the way water clings to the side of a glass when poured. Thanks to its patented design, the Gutter Shutter® system has more surface tension than any other gutter system on the market, so you can rest assured knowing you won’t need to climb a ladder to clean your gutters. In addition, Gutter Shutter®’s high-back gutter troughs completely cover your fascia boards, so you don’t have to worry about water seeping behind your gutters and causing damage.

The Gutter Shutter® system was designed and tested to handle the heaviest rainfalls. Both the 5″ and 6″ gutter guards have exclusive flow reducers to slow the water coming off your roof, and the rolled-hood gutter guard design uses the principle of surface tension to keep water flowing into your gutters. Because surface tension isn’t affected by the amount or speed of water flowing over your gutter hoods, you can be sure your Gutter Shutter® system will continue performing smoothly – even in the heaviest downpours.

The Gutter Shutter® system attaches to your home using our heavy-duty GutterStud brackets. Unlike other systems that use inexpensive plastic or glass-filled polypropylene brackets, these brackets are made mostly of a durable virgin nylon that won’t break down over time due to harsh weather conditions. GutterStud brackets are attached to your fascia boards every 24 inches using 3″ galvanized screws (no nails or rivets), ensuring your gutters remain permanently attached to your home. We use only factory-trained professionals to install GutterStud brackets, so your gutters will continue to perform optimally for years to come!

Yes. The steeper the roof, the better Gutter Shutter® gutters will perform. The reality is that steeper roofs catch less water than roofs with a more gradual slope. A flat roof catches all of the rain that falls on it. As you begin to increase the slope of a roof, angling its surface upwards, you shrink the surface area available to catch rainwater and reduce the total amount of rain that can be handled by gutters. Of course, the water that’s caught by a steeper roof will flow faster, but fast water flow has no effect on how the Gutter Shutter® system performs.

Because the Gutter Shutter® system attaches directly to your fascia boards, it does not interfere with your roofing in any way. This means you’ll be able to replace your roof without affecting your gutters.

The Gutter Shutter® system is made using 0.032 gauge aluminum, making it the strongest residential gutter system on the market. Standing a ladder or a similar device against the Gutter Shutter® system will not be a problem.

Probably not. It’s much more likely that, over time, your old gutters will cause as much as 10 times their value in home repairs due to poor design. Companies selling gutter guards that rely on using your existing gutters want you to believe that you’ll save a ton of money. The reality is that you can install a complete Gutter Shutter® system for the same or less money, and our system is guaranteed to never leak, clog, sag, or pull away from your home!
